Because of the extra resources required, we will be charging a small fee. But don't panic. The original hourly, HTTP only, basic service will still remain free. New features! Two fascinating additions have been made to our service. First, there is now an alert feature. If you wish to be notified when your site status changes from up to down, or vice versa, just edit your user profile to enable alerts. You may also send these alerts to an alternate email address, as in one for a pager or other more immediate messaging service. The other change is more "behind the scenes". We have implemented a "second opinion" system to reduce the number of false alarms. Because the machines that actually contact members' sites are distributed in different areas and networks, we now will try from another machine in a different location to make absolutely sure that YOUR system or connection is really down, not ours. Important policy change! In order to ensure that those using our service (and our precious resources) are only those that are serious about site maintenance, we will be requiring that all users login to our service monthly. Those users that allow more than 30 days between logins will be deleted from our service.
